The horseshoe was arguably the most important item made by the blacksmith. Beyond its practical value, it became a lasting symbol of good fortune and prosperity—an emblem that continues to hold widespread appeal. In the past century, this symbolism found expression in the ornamental design of forge entrances. These images showcase a selection of Forges in Offaly with distinctive horseshoe-shaped doorways.
